February 25th

As you are all aware, I am doing a project about my nana and her journey with dementia, of course other themes are involved to, like family : a great resource to look at is pleasures and terrors of domestic comfort by Peter Galassi, 2017. The resource was suggested to me by Mathew Finn, through an interaction on Instagram. As I had posted about the photographers that have inspired my project this semester. The pdf was free and was found on the MOMA website. It focuses on the family and the domestic with examples of photographers that specialize in the subject. I have been looking at the family archive too, looking at how other photographers use techniques of manipulation to change their work to fit their topic. Jim Golberg adds text in “raised by wolves”. Cropping into images to change the narrative like Larry Sultan and techniques like overlaying, tearing and collages. Another resource for archives is the amc-archive of modern conflict if you are interested that is. ”Control order house” by Edmund Clarke is fascinating, the topic and the layout; the layout isn’t like most photobooks as it uses contacts and contact sheets which I would like to incorporate into my own work.

This week has been all about archives and doing the first draft of the dummy book, hence why I have also been looking at different publishers such as: tide press, Text book studio, Loose joints, Witty books and Skinner Boox are all publishers I have/will investigate as my research in my project progresses.
