Halloween is upon us .The time of year when children are off from school ,a time for socializing and trick or treating. However, this year the half term seems very bleak, as we face an uncertain future.
To raise our spirits the impressions gallery Bradford has put on Seedscapes: Future-proofing nature ,virtual exhibition on for free. A great project to see ,if your interested in nature and its something to do with your kids.
by Dornith Doherty
Seedscapes: future proofing nature is an exhibition that shows the beauty of nature and that it needs protecting/safeguarding ,themes such as nature, biodiversity and the environment are also highlighted through the works of 5 practitioners (Donith Doherty, Sant Khalsa, Chrystel Lebas, Heidi Morstang and Liz Orton) - "exploring global efforts to safeguard vital plant species from extinction. Plant diversity is rapidly declining, and faces threats from global warming, pollution and war. Yet without seeds and their potential for food and medicine, we cannot sustain ourselves."
I decided to have browse through the exhibition myself. The exhibition its self is a mix of photography, sculptures and other works of art, therefore has something for everyone . I found myself drawn to the use of colour through out the exhibition and the materiality of the images. The earthy tones of brown, green and yellow are coherent with the theme of nature. The scale of the images allowed it be be full detailed up close ,but also seen from a distance. Perhaps something to take in consideration for my future work. though i would recommend you have a look for yourself in the comfort of your own home.
