Brown frequently speaks at the University of Huddersfield, during my time there I have heard her speak twice. The first time she went into depth about her career, this time she focused on the key points of her carer from the artist residences to Harpez Bazaar in the first part of her presentation. The second part of her presentation was how the magazine evolved with the times and coming up with innovative ideas for the covers. Though that is something to dissect another day. Today I am interested in her most recent personal projects of simulations. The project came from a quote that related to the idea of “imagination stations”. So, she headed to the Florida where most of the imagination stations are, it started from a trip to Disney and asking strangers about other places that were classed as such. Her project than took a turn as she started to focus on people that turn themselves into simulations for the entertainment of others.
Leading Brown to photograph gymnast, dancers and even scare actors.

The image above was taken at Halloween as Rachel went back to the states and had an all areas pass to a haunted/Halloween attraction, she came across the scare actor. She asked to take the photo, but the young girl was in character, so she didn’t reply. This image intrigues me, perhaps it’s the dark aesthetic or the hostile performance, either way I can’t take my eyes of it.Brown is known to create images that have an uncomfortable undertone,
just like the portrait of the lobster girl.
